My love of theatre started in junior high when I found a way to express myself and was instantly hooked.  I went on to participate in many shows and festivals throughout junior and senior high, where my cast and I competed against other schools, showed off our talents, and received awards.

After graduation, I immediately wanted to continue my involvement in theatre, so helped revive our community theatre that hadn’t been in practice for over ten years, and began volunteering with the high school productions.  I went on to co-direct and self direct many other productions at the schools in my hometown during my bachelor of education. My name became a staple in many schools, and I was invited back to direct even when I was working elsewhere.  With my help, our highschool students went on to win the regional festival, and performed with great success at provincials. One of my goals is to ensure future students have the opportunity to attend festivals, which became the highlight of mine, and my drama students’, school years.

Along with the stage, I have also taught creative writing and literature courses.  As a young student, I would write stories and fell in love with the way words painted pictures in my mind.  I soon found I excelled in written work, and took every writing course I could in high school. My writing won me awards, scholarships, and helped me obtain my first teaching position.  I received the opportunity to teach the same creative writing course I had loved in high school. Teaching students how to improve their writing, craft narratives, and watch them improve was so exciting!  The students were enthusiastic and focused in class, leading them to produce amazing written works that reinforced my own passion for writing.

My own enthusiasm for the arts as a student has led me to be a teacher who recognizes and fosters those passions in my students.  I am able to guide, coach, and direct their creativity in so many ways, bringing forward abilities and talents the students didn’t see in themselves.  This has led to my new passion of teaching the arts.
