Egyptian Pharaoh Art

During my teaching in grade four, I taught a cross-curricular unit on Ancient Egyptian Gods. The students loved the content, and we used the myths to teach story writing techniques, and summarizing.

After, each student created their own myth about their own "god". They were encouraged to intertwine their stories with their classmates, like the Egyptian gods' stories were. After they were finished, I took photos of each student's face from the side. I printed those out, outlined them, and had the student cut them out. We glued their faces to large pieces of brown bulletin board paper. After doing some class research on Egyptian headdresses, patters, and colours, the students designed their own on their portraits. Using oil pastels, they coloured and blended creating beautiful portraits which we displayed with their typed myths. This was one of my favourite projects, and the students were so proud of their work!
